Having previously worked as a Lead Clinical Physiologist, and UK National Governance Manager for a leading private healthcare company, I have extensive industry experience as a scientist.

After years of training new clinical staff and managers, I wanted to use these skills to help young people reach their potential; creating the next generation of scientists!

After discussing your child’s needs and preferences for learning, I deliver a bespoke, tailored approach to tutoring your child, in support of their current educational provision or as alternative provision with their LA.

I am an experienced home educator, providing support to those who are not in mainstream education, including those with complex SEN including ASD, Asperger's syndrome, ADHD, Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, and Dyspraxia.

Weekly GCSE Science and Maths Online Group Tuition
Weekly A level Biology Tuition AQA
Teens studying

I run small (max of 8 students) tuition sessions on Tuesdays (Maths) and Wednesdays (Science). Sessions focus on test/exam/mock prep, homework, revisiting topics from past learning and looking at new topics, building upon current knowledge. These are predominately student led sessions, so that your child can gain the most from these; Science subjects alternate each week. Short and to the point these are 45mins and £30 per session. Sessions are recorded and sent to parents each week, so students can use these again and again for revision.
Weekly group tuition ensures that students can have regular tuition in a friendly, nurturing environment, which is more affordable than one to one tuition.
A Level AQA Biology Groups run Tuesdays 5.30pm -6.30pm and are a Max of 4 students, £40/session.
Most students like to block book sessions for a term / half term to ensure they avoid disappointment.

Exam and Mocks Preparation
Revision timetable and Planning
Exam

How much revision should my child be doing at weekends, on a school night, over the holidays?
How do we get started with a revision timetable?
How much time should be allocated to each subject?
How long should breaks be?

Questions that most parents ask or are thinking about when it comes to their child's test or exam preparation.

I offer a 30min session to equip your child with the tools they need to start independently planning a revision timetable, and realistically being able to stick to it, including supporting them create their first week of revision timetable!
Face to Face (Woking Area) or Online £35

I know how difficult it can be to find those last few marks in exams, or know how to plan and write a suitable method for those challenging required practicals.

Good exam technique can be the difference between one grade to the next, and often when students know how to answer particular questions, they can then start to achieve more in tests and exams.

My eBook 'a guide to thriving in your exams' (£4.99) is the prefect way to help your teen plan their revision and stick to it. With two free revision planners and packed full of effective hints and tips, this will really make revision stick!

Which type of tuition is right for my child?

One to one tuition often sees the most progress with learning and grades in the shortest amount of time. Small group tuition is also be a great way to learn with friends in an informal group setting.
Regular one to one sessions usually book up quickly, with some people booking 2 years in advance. If you are not able to have one to one tuition straight away, I offer a place on my waiting list, or you may like to join one of my group sessions until a one to one place becomes available.
I also offer cancellation slots and ad hoc tuition in school holidays. Please email for information or to book this.

FAQ's

Where does tuition take place?

Tuition either takes place in the comfort of your home or online via zoom. You may like to have a mix to meet the flexibility your family needs.

How impactful is tution?

While academic success or improvement cannot be guaranteed by any tutor, students usually improve their overall grade and confidence, which often transfers over to other subjects too!
On average students gaining tuition from SB Tutoring at A level increase by 2 grades and those at GCSE increase between 2-4 grades.

How is safeguarding managed at SB Tutoring ?

Child safety is of the upmost importance to SB Tutoring. Safeguarding CPD is undertaken regularly, and I hold an enhanced DBS Check which is updated yearly.
As a member of the The Tutors Association I adhere to a strict code of conduct, ethics and safeguarding.
All personal data is also handled to GDPR and ICO guidance.

What is your tutoring method?

I am student led but tutor guided.  Our sessions will always start with what your child wants to cover e.g. homework, revision for a test or something they want to gain confidence with, and ensures that there is curriculum flexibility.
I will discuss with your child how we can use the feedback from recent tests, school reports or parents evenings, to push their learning forward and then facilitate this.

Still have more questions? If so, please email me and I’ll be happy to answer them.
